Being Smart is not the Key to Mastery

The key is no secret. You just have to remind yourself of it.

People differentiate in learning styles. Some people grasp immediately while others take time to comprehend what they are trying to learn.

They say that some people were born naturally smart, whereas others just purely lack competency. I am here to tell you that this is not entirely true!

As I matured, I have seen a lot of people who struggled to learn but eventually became an ‘expert’ on the material they were not so good at. They can be seen in our everyday lives.

Let me tell you a story. My parents have retail stores and there’s this one employee who started working with them since its establishment. I have seen her struggle doing simple math like addition and subtraction. She told me that she did not finish school and even flunked math. As time went on, I suddenly noticed the big improvements she was making. Whenever someone pays for an item, she tries computing mentally to know how much change she owes the buyer and immediately checks the calculator if her computation was right. She did it over and over, every single day. Months passed and to my astonishment, she was not using a calculator anymore!
